Spring Volunteer Day

Saturday 28th March

Our next Volunteer Day will take place on Saturday 28th March between 10am and 2pm. Do please come along and help us prepare the site for the growing season ahead, even if you can only spare an hour or so, because many hands really do make light work! We will have a variety of jobs to suit all ages and abilities, and refreshments will be provided. It’s always a fun day, and a great opportunity to get to know fellow plotholders.

Open Day

Sunday 20th September

This year, our annual open day in aid of St. Christopher’s Hospice, will be held on Sunday 20th September. Following the success of last year’s event, when we raised over £1000.00 for charity, this one promises to be our biggest and best yet. Alongside produce, cakes, honey, jams and chutney for sale, there will be a pizza van serving freshly baked pizzas, homemade cream teas, ice cream, craft stalls, children’s activities, and all accompanied by the amazing “Mid Life Crisis” band. Please do make a note of the date in your diary and we look forward to seeing you on the day.

Annual General Meeting 2026

On Monday 9th February, West Wickham Allotments Limited held their sixth Annual General Meeting at West Wickham Bowls Club. Members came together over a glass of wine to hear reports from committee members, and vote on resolutions, including the banning of artificial grass for environmental reasons. Following a lively debate, and arguments put forward on both sides, members voted to follow the lead of the RHS and ban the use of artificial grass , including the removal of existing material, from 1st June 2026.

Christmas Drinks & the presentation of the ‘Ted Goodall Cup’

On Sunday 14th December we hosted our annual Christmas drinks event in The Trading Shed, where mulled wine, beers and soft drinks were enjoyed by plotholders, together with a delicious buffet. The raffle, in aid of St. Christopher’s Hospice, raised an incredible £159.00. Importantly though, the festive gathering enabled us to award the ‘Ted Goodall Cup for Best Newcomer’, which this year was presented to the amazing Sandra. Well done for all you have achieved this year Sandra, you are an inspiration to us all. On receiving her award from our Chairman Tony, Sandra said “Thank you for my cup. During my first year as an allotmenteer I have met a fantastic group of welcoming people who have been so willing to share their abundance of knowledge, help, seeds and plants, that has inspired me throughout the year and made me proud to be part of West Wickham Allotments”.

Autumn Volunteer Day

On Saturday 27th September we welcomed a willing group of helpers for our second Volunteer Day of the year. It was a highly productive few hours, with various areas of the site being cut back and cleared, including the lavender beds by ‘Ron’s Pond’.  Thank you to everyone who took part and gave up their time to help maintain our lovely site for the benefit of the whole allotment community.

Summer BBQ

On Sunday 17th August a wonderful afternoon was had by all at the annual Summer BBQ.  Fabulous food, amazing weather, and a brilliant quiz thanks to plotholders Andy and David. Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed our latest social event. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Open Day 2025

On Sunday 6th July we hosted our annual allotment Open Day. The weather was kind, the craft, plant and produce stalls did a roaring trade, the bacon rolls, BBQ, cream teas and cakes went down a storm, and everything was set to music thanks to the amazing “Mid Life Crisis” band. Most importantly, we raised over £1000.00 for St. Christopher’s Hospice, which is an incredible achievement. Well done and thank you to everyone who participated in this fantastic event.

Annual General Meeting 2025

Thank you to everyone who braved the cold weather and came along to our fifth AGM on Monday 10th February at West Wickham Bowls Club. It was great to see so many fellow allotmenteers, including those who have recently acquired their plots. Many topics were covered, including an appeal for volunteers to help with a range of tasks, the always contentious issue of bonfires (whether to burn or not to burn) and an update on our bid to improve engagement with the allotment community through effective communication and social events.

Christmas Drinks

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Christmas drinks on 15th December. It was wonderful to see so many plotholders on the day, and enjoy the festive spread provided by all the guests. The committee supplied copious amounts of mulled wine, beer and soft drinks, and it is safe to say that a good time was had by all.

An amazing range of prizes were donated for the raffle in aid of St. Christopher’s Hospice, with committee member Viv J doing a sterling job in calling the winning tickets – the number of prizes on offer meant few people left empty handed! An impressive £215.00 was raised for the charity and no doubt many family members found themselves with an additional gift or two in their Christmas stockings!
